Over the two-week break, I decided to look through my grandmother's collection of VHS horror movies, in a bin that was well overly accumulated with dust. My grandmother loves to collect old DVDs ( companies stopped producing VHS tapes as technology advanced), and turns out the last EVER made VHS tape was titled: "A History of Violence", produced around 2006. After looking over her collection, I started to realize how over the years, technology and popularity were the main two reasons that VHS's lost recognition. And me being a horror fan, decided that I will continue my grandmothers tradition, and collect more VHS tapes. So far, I have 'House of A Thousand Corpses" (A Rob Zombie film) and Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness". I looked at how these tapes were made out of two kinds of plastic. "The outer cassette is typically made of polypropylene (PP) or #5 plastic. The inside ribbon is made with Mylar, a type of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or #1 plastic. The ribbon is coated with iron oxide and other metals, some of which are hazardous", which I found very interesting.
